This guide covers the base Llama sprite's abilities and strategy. The Gold Llama variant shares the same core mechanics with an additional theme bonus.
Weapon Upgrades from Ammo Boxes
Llama introduces a unique mechanic: opening ammo boxes has a chance to upgrade one of your currently held weapons. At Level 5, you have a 20% chance per ammo box — meaning roughly one in five ammo boxes will turn a green AR into a blue, or a blue shotgun into purple. This passive loot improvement compounds across an entire match as you naturally loot ammo boxes during rotations.
How Weapon Upgrades Work
When the upgrade triggers, one random weapon in your inventory increases by one rarity tier. A gray pistol becomes green, a blue AR becomes purple, etc. The upgrade applies to an existing weapon — it doesn't spawn a new one. This means Llama rewards players who pick up weapons early and keep them, rather than constantly swapping for floor loot. The longer you hold a weapon, the more chances Llama has to upgrade it.
Optimal Looting Strategy
To maximize Llama's value, deliberately path through areas with high ammo box density: gas stations, weapon shops, underground tunnels, and multi-story buildings all have concentrated ammo box spawns. In a normal match, an aggressive looter might open 15-20 ammo boxes — at Level 5 that's 3-4 weapon upgrades for free, equivalent to finding upgrade benches without spending materials.
Legendary Rarity and Acquisition
Llama is Legendary rarity found in Relic Chests — the same special chest type that spawns Burnt Peanut. Summon cost is 4,500 Sprite Dust, moderate for a Legendary. Its 4.45% drop rate from regular Sprite Chests makes natural discovery feasible with enough gameplay, though summoning remains the most reliable path.
Tier Placement
Llama occupies an interesting niche — it doesn't help you IN fights, but it upgrades your loadout passively over time. For players who loot efficiently and rotate through ammo-box-rich areas, the upgrades compound into a significant weapon quality advantage by mid-game. Less impactful for aggressive players who get their loot from kills rather than boxes.
