GUIDE

Holofoil Sprites

Everything you need to know about finding, collecting, and using Holofoil Sprites in Fortnite's Runners season.

Holofoil Sprites are the newest Special variant theme in Fortnite's Runners season — rainbow-foil versions of existing base sprites that carry a unique squad-wide perk: a 5% chance to pull rare Sprite variants from any chest your squad opens. That passive alone makes them the most strategically valuable Special variants for anyone trying to complete their collection.

Unlike Gold (XP bonus) or Gummy (dust yield) variants that help you grind faster, Holofoil variants directly increase your odds of finding other rare sprites mid-match. Stack one on your loadout and every Sprite Chest your squad touches has better odds of dropping the Galaxy, Gem, or other Special variants you're still hunting.

This guide covers exactly how to find Holofoil Sprites, what each one costs to summon, which variants are currently available, and the most efficient farming strategies — including Power Hour timing and Golden Fishing Spot locations.

STRATEGY

Best Settings for Farming Holofoil Sprites

The fastest way to collect Holofoil Sprites isn't grinding normal matches — it's manipulating matchmaking to get into low-population lobbies filled mostly with bots. Fewer real players means more unopened Sprite Chests for you. Here's the setup:

Changing server region to Middle East in Fortnite settings

1. Switch to a Distant Server

Go to Settings → Game → Matchmaking Region and pick a region far from you (Middle East or Asia work well for NA/EU players). Higher ping doesn't matter for PvE-style Sprite farming — you're not fighting real people. The distant region ensures your lobby fills with bots instead of sweats.

Disabling cross-platform play in Fortnite

2. Disable Cross-Platform Play

Under Settings → Account → Allow Cross-Platform Play → No. This shrinks the player pool further, guaranteeing your matches are 90%+ bots. Combined with the distant server, you'll often be the only real player in the lobby.

3. Queue Solo Zero Build

Play Solo → Zero Build mode specifically. Zero Build gives you unlimited shockwave movement from the start, letting you cover the entire map in a single match without needing vehicles. Solo is required for the cross-platform trick to work — squads and duos won't allow it.

SPAWN LOCATIONS

Where Holofoil Sprites Actually Spawn

Holofoil Sprites can appear from three chest types. Understanding the difference saves time:

Map showing key Holofoil Sprite spawn locations including towers, caves, and vault areas

Berry Spirit Chests (Best Odds)

These are the dedicated Sprite chests — purple-glowing containers that spawn randomly across the map. They have the highest drop rate for Special variants including Holofoil. Key spawn zones:

  • Towers — Large tower structures almost always have a Spirit Chest inside or on top
  • Caves — Underground cave areas between major POIs
  • Landmark trees — Distinctive lone trees on hilltops often have a chest at their base
  • Blue-name locations — Named landmarks (not main POIs) have elevated rare chest spawns

Red Chests → Vaults

Opening red-tier locked chests can grant access to vaults. Inside vaults you'll find additional Spirit Chests with better roll tables. If you see a red chest, always open it — the vault behind it is worth the key.

Golden Fishing Spots

The gold-colored ripple pools on water surfaces can drop Holofoil Sprites directly when fished. Most players ignore these entirely, making them an uncontested source — especially powerful in bot lobbies where nobody else is fishing.

What to Expect

Even with optimal settings, Holofoil spawns are random. Some runs you'll pull two in one match; others you'll hit every chest on the map and get nothing. The strategy above doesn't guarantee drops — it maximizes your attempts per hour by eliminating competition and speeding up traversal.

Budget roughly 5–10 matches per Holofoil variant if farming naturally. If you'd rather skip the RNG, summoning with Sprite Dust (4,000–6,000 per variant) remains the guaranteed path.

Holofoil Sprites — FAQ

How rare are Holofoil Sprites in Fortnite?

Holofoil Sprites follow standard Special-tier drop rates from Sprite Chests — roughly 1.5% per chest for any specific Holofoil variant. That makes natural discovery unlikely in a single session. Most players summon them with Sprite Dust (4,000–6,000 depending on the base sprite's rarity) rather than relying on chest RNG. During Power Hour events, spawn rates get a significant temporary boost.

Where do you find Holofoil Sprites in Fortnite?

Three sources: 1) Standard Sprite Chests anywhere on the map (low odds but no requirements). 2) Golden Fishing Spots — cast a line at the golden ripple pools and you have a chance to hook Holofoil variants directly. 3) Summoning with Sprite Dust at any Sprite altar. The fishing method is underrated — Golden Fishing Spots are uncontested in most matches since few players know they drop Special variants.

How many Holofoil Sprites are there in Fortnite?

Currently 15 Holofoil variants exist in the game files. As of the latest patch, 10 are released and obtainable: Holofoil Water, Fire, Ghost, King, Striker, Air, Seven, Earth, Duck, and Dream. The remaining 5 (Holofoil Demon, Punk, Boss, Fishy, Aura) are datamined but not yet enabled — expect them in future updates.

What do Holofoil Sprites do in Fortnite?

Every Holofoil Sprite gives you the same bonus passive: 5% chance for your squad to find rare Sprite variants from looting chests. On top of that, each Holofoil keeps the base sprite's core ability — so Holofoil Ghost still grants cloak-on-reload, Holofoil Fire still triggers a fiery burst on damage dealt, etc. You get the base power plus the rare-finding bonus stacked together.

How much Sprite Dust to summon a Holofoil Sprite?

Summoning cost follows the base sprite's rarity tier: 4,000 dust for Rare bases (Water, Fire, Earth, Fishy, Air) and 6,000 dust for Epic bases (Ghost, King, Striker, Duck, Demon, Aura) and above. That's the same cost as other Special variants of the same base. If you're choosing where to spend dust first, Holofoil Ghost (6,000) is widely considered the best value given Ghost's top-tier base ability.

When is the Holofoil Sprite Power Hour?

Power Hours are limited-time events where specific variant spawn rates are boosted. The latest Holofoil Power Hour ran on July 11, 2026. Epic announces Power Hours via in-game news and social media — they typically happen within 2–3 days after a new variant batch drops. During the event, Holofoil spawns from chests jump significantly, making it the single best window to collect multiple variants in one session.

Can you get Holofoil Sprites from fishing?

Yes — Golden Fishing Spots (the gold-colored ripple pools on water) can drop Holofoil Sprites. This is a confirmed alternative source that most players overlook. Golden Fishing Spots are lower competition since most squads ignore them, making fishing a viable collection strategy especially in squads where one player can fish while others cover map spawns.

Which Holofoil Sprite should I get first?

Holofoil Ghost is the consensus priority pick. Ghost's cloak-on-reload base ability is already the most impactful sprite power in the game (near-universal S-tier), and the Holofoil version adds the 5% rare-finding bonus on top. After Ghost, Holofoil Striker (Overdrive on movement abilities) and Holofoil King (pickaxe damage for Build players) are strong follow-ups depending on your playstyle.
